Bharatiytha… Indian-ness

The recent turn of events that’s struck India the past week, has got me thinking, and very often in irrational emotions. Obviously across the political spectrum, the leaders have failed us (I refrain from calling them ‘our leaders’ because they are just leading the cause that they support which might be several, like the Congress playing pet dog to Sonia Gandhi like Manmohan Singh and Shivraj Patil, Amar Singh wearing the skull cap to get the Muslim vote, Prakash Karat professing accession to China to name a few, and ofcourse the various religious and communal tirades various political parties engage in). Until Mumbai last week (26 November 2008), I too like most fellow Indians where not overtly concerned by terrorism and all these ‘trivial’ issues (trivial as the politicians make us believe). But after the US invasion of Iraq back in 2003, this is the second time I’ve pretty much been glued to the news channels, but this time it’s striking home, and that in turn makes this painful. Our politicians have failed us time and again. While the majority of the blame does go out to the Italian-led INC (Italian National Congress), and it’s never been more obvious that the life of Indian is not even worth the life of a roadside Romeo (remember Maneka Gandhi?). Sitting in Kerala, I might be hypocritical to an extent, but the recent developments in the state doubtlessly screams something of the scale of Mumbai just waiting to hit Kerala. And I can already listen to the barking dogs that the Communists and Congressmen are, rubbing their hands in anticipation to get to each other’s throats when terror finally strikes home. No political party has been innocent of being soft on Islamic terror. Even the BJP (remember Kandahar ’99 and Parliament in ’03?), which seems the least culpable out of the current crop of immoral political parties can escape the blame, but nonetheless in such a highly charged political environmnet, they seem to be the only alternative and that’s just a tad better than the Congressmen who sold India for the last 61 years.

However, like several Indians (the ones who aren’t politicians or sees people according to religion), the commandos gave us something to cheer about finally. The news media too were quite forthcoming in their views, though often the question of why the Congressmen and Amar Singh (who’s single-handedly against any anti-terror movements, remember Batla House and Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma and what this baldheaded crook Amar Singh said afterwards?) are silent right now. Where is this fake Indian, Arundhati Roy (who’s only accomplishment in life is a Booker Prize) who said India should accede Kashmir or the treacherous Shahi Imam of the Delhi Juma Masjid? By giving these people a platform to spread their anti-national tirade, the media too have been doing the devil’s work.

Another worrying aspect is this so called Indo-Pak peace process. The common man knows that Pakistan can never be our friend. Why do we sit silently and hope they mend their ways? That country is the single biggest cause of un-natural deaths in India and they are let scot-free. Why don’t we do what the US did to Iraq and Afghanistan? The lack of backbone at the political level has never been more apparent. Pakisan is the enemy, period. The world community remains mute spectators as every week scores of Indians die because of the malice that emanates from across the LOC.

This page I’ll be posting my views (obviously) and often I would be going overboard and the language will not be moderated, as in these cases emotion has to take over courtesy.

Still as an Indian, there still is a flicker of hope, but Ahimsa? My foot.

Jai Hind, jai Shriram.
